Nicole Melissa Munn Memorial Scholarship

The student chosen for the Nicole Melissa Munn Memorial Scholarship in Pediatric Neurology will:

A. be an incoming 4th-year student in LSU Health School of Medicine;
B. have demonstrated superior medical knowledge throughout four years of medical school;
C. be oriented toward patient care;
D. have taken Pediatrics and/or a Pediatric subspecialty in the third and fourth years of medical school;
E. demonstrate medical competence in clinical situations; and
F. demonstrate exceptional human relations skills in the following clinical situations:
1. exhibits compassion and genuine concern for the patient’s condition;
2. regards and interacts with patients as “people who happen to be sick” not as “patients who happen to be people”;
3. willing to work with the patient to establish confidence and trust;
4. includes the patient and his family as part of the team to treat illness/injury; explains options, answers questions, and includes responsible parties in the decision-making process;
5. deals with the emotional impact of the patient’s condition on the patient and his family; listens, answers questions, and is aware of support facilities, where available, for non-medical illness-related problems; and
6. consistently demonstrates a willingness to assist and support the patient and his family beyond the minimum required for adequate medical care.
